3/23/2014 – Pascack Historical Society Presents Dr. Anthony Troncone Discussing Post-Civil War America

The Pascack Historical Society (PHS) will put a spotlight on post Civil War America on Sunday, March 23 at 2p.m., at its barrier-free museum, 19 Ridge Avenue, Park Ridge with – “POST CIVIL WAR RECONSTRUCTION: CRISIS, CONFLICT & THE SHAPING OF MODERN AMERICA.” a talk by Dr. Anthony Troncone. Admission is free.


Children are welcome when Troncone will discuss the major events that surrounded Reconstruction beginning with the Freedmen’s Bureau of 1865 and culminating with the election of Rutherford B. Hayes in 1876. Specific areas to be discussed are the Civil Rights Act of 1866, the Black Codes, The Military Reconstruction Acts of 1867, the impeachment of President Andrew Johnson in 1868, the Fourteenth and Fifteenth Amendments and the Supreme Court decisions in the 1870s.


A popular speaker at the museum, Dr. Troncone is chair of the History Department at Dominican College in Orangeburg, New York and the PHS Historical Advisory Board of Trustees. He founded and supervises the Dominican College/PHS Student Intern Program at the museum. This one-of-a-kind program provides history students an opportunity to volunteer at the PHS museum, while they learn about the many aspects of museum studies and preservation.
