Bus Dedication Paramus Veterans Home April 25 2014
Tuesday, April 29th, 2014 @ 12:52PM
On Friday April 25th as Commander of the Bergen County American Legion organization, I was honored to have presented the keys to a new bus for use by the residents of the NJ Veteran’s Memorial Home in Paramus. This came about due to the generous donations of many.
As you know the Legion kicked off a Bergen County effort to raise $85,000 for a much needed new bus. The project which kicked off officially October 25th, to date has raised $98,452.22. The bus delivered to the home on April 25th costs only $81,050.00 thanks to discounts provided by the Alliance Bus Company of Carlstadt, so it has been decided to keep the drive going in hopes of raising the additional $63,659.42 need to purchase a 2nd bus. The bus delivered will accommodate 8 full size wheel chairs or 24 residents and any combination of both. It replaces a bus which accommodated only 2 wheel chairs and 12 residents. A 2nd bus would be replacing an aging bus that accommodates 4 wheel chairs (it cannot accommodate the new full size electric chairs) and 18 residents or a combination of both.
Again anyone willing to make a donation can send a check made out to Bergen County American Legion Bus Fund, c/o Bob Salvini, 54 Thiem Ave Rochelle Park, NJ 07662 or go to http://www.bcnjal.org/index.php/county/paramus-bus to make a donation by credit card.
