Summer officially came and it has been hot-hot-hot. However, I guess we should not complain because, as I recall, Winter was cold-cold-cold.
Bingos were held at the Paramus Veterans Home on May 7th and June 4th. The Veterans were at the tables way before we arrived waiting for the games to start. As always, they had a fantastic time and all went back to their rooms with $$$. The bingo scheduled for July 10th was cancelled due to a power outage. Our next bingos are August 6th, October 1st, November 5th, and December 11th. Volunteers are always needed and welcome. Bingo starts at 7:00 p.m. and volunteers are requested to be at the Home by 6:45 p.m.
On May 28th, the Memorial Day events started at 8:00 a.m. with Church Services at Sacred Heart Church followed by the American Legion Post 170 Memorial Day Services at the Monuments by the Midland School. The weather was good and the Parade took off as scheduled. The Veterans arrived early this year and while there was only one bus load, they all had a great time. The Sailors from Fleet Week were there to greet and socialize with the Veterans along with the Post 170 Family. After the parade, the Parade Committee and the Post 170 family helped with serving the hot dogs, soda and popcorn. Our very own DJ, Jim Morton entertained us with music and a clown was there for the children. Back packs, filled with items donated by Post members and others, were distributed to the Veterans from the Paramus home and the Sailors. It was a great day.
The Convention festivities at Wildwood started June 6th thru 10th. The weather was not the greatest but that did not stop the kids and adults using the pool and having fun. Friday afternoon we held our “Family” cocktail party. This was a “pot-luck” event and everyone brought food to share and believe me there was a plentiful variety. Brandy Alexanders were blended up by our Commander, Ed O’Dowd, and served by Patti Diaz our incoming 2nd Vice President. Dessert was ice-cream and loads of cakes, cookies, etc. Everyone helped to set up and clean up. Saturday a tram was available for all who wanted to participate in the Parade. Thank you all for coming…hope to see you and more at next year’s Convention which will be a week later….June 12th-16th.
