Hello Ladies and Post 170 Family,
No more complaining about hot weather (unless, of course, you are going on vacation to the Islands). As I write this report, it is 48 degrees. Oh well, it was bound to happen.
Bingos were held at the Paramus Veterans Home on August 6thand October 1st. The attendance of Veterans seems to increase with each new date. As always, they had a great time and all went home winners. The next two bingos are November 5th and December 11th which is when we give out Christmas cards and extra money. Hopefully Santa has us on his schedule. Bingos start at 7:00 pm and volunteers are requested to be at the Home by 6:45 pm.
Our annual family picnic was a great success and very well attended (although we always hope for more “family members”). The kids enjoyed the face painters and the bouncy. Food was excellent and the Veterans had a great time. Music was provided by our very own Jim Morton, who always seems to know what to play to get all of us up and moving.
As Commander Ed reported, the 9/11 Ceremony had the largest attendance ever. Jim Morton’s film presentation moved many of us to tears.
On September 30th, the Auxiliary hosted a bus trip to the Sands Casino. We had a full bus. Breakfast sandwiches, crumb cake, coffee and juice were served at the Post and then we boarded the bus. Snacks and various drinks were served on the bus. A good time was had by all especially the “winners”. Thanks to Pattie Diaz for running the trip and to all those who helped out.
Ladies…we voted and Nanni Ristorante (located at 53 W. Passaic Street) won by unanimous vote for our Annual Christmas Party. It will be held on Thursday, December 13thstarting with a 6:00 pm cocktail hour at the Post (yes, ladies, Commander Ed is making his famous brandy alexanders). We will then go next door to Nanni Ristorante for dinner starting at 7:00 pm. The price for dinner is $30 for salad, pasta, entrée (choices to follow in separate email), dessert, coffee, tea, soda. There will be a cash bar. Please rsvp Casey (Wagner) Connors at email@example.com by phone 201-696-2415 on or before the November 8thmeeting. Your check (made payable to ALA Unit 170) or cash is due by November 8th and can be brought to the meeting or left in the envelope at the lounge bar. Our sincere thanks to Casey for chairing this event, finding three awesome places and putting everything together. Hope to see all of you at the Party.
On November 24ththe Post Family will hold their annual trim-a-tree party starting at 5:00 pm. Bring a covered dish to share with all attending, get two drink coupons, eat, drink, address cards to the Veterans and help to trim the Post hall, lounge and other areas. The more the merrier.
Don’t forget to view and participate in the upcoming events listed on the “Events Page”. Our next meeting is November 8th.
To everyone…a very happy Thanksgiving, merry Christmas, Chanukah, or however you celebrate and a safe, healthy and happy New Year.
For God and Country,
Roberta O’Dowd, Unit President
