Well I guess the Farmers’ Almanac was correct…so far we have had a very cold and snowy winter.
We held bingos at the Paramus Veterans Home on November 7th, December 5th and January 9th. At the December bingo, besides giving out bingo winnings, we distributed Christmas cards with $10 cash in each envelope. After bingo we gave out juice drinks, bananas, candy canes and cookies. Also, Santa Claus was present to complete the festivities. As always, thanks to the Post Family members who helped make these bingos such a joy for the Veterans. Upcoming bingos are Monday, February 5th, Monday, March 5th and Monday, April 2nd. Volunteers are welcome and needed to help the Veterans with their bingo cards and to hand out the winnings. Volunteers should be at the home at 6:45 p.m.
While I was not at the Post Family’s annual Trim-A-Tree party on November, I was told everyone had a great time. How could you go wrong with a potluck dinner, free drinks and good friends to celebrate with.
On Saturday, December 2nd, Post Family members met at the train station in Rochelle Park to meet the Santa train. A special thanks to our Chaplain, Peggy Iurato, who shopped and brought the gifts to the train station. It was unbelievable how many toys were loaded on to the train to be distributed. A sincere thank you to all who donated and helped that day especially to Colleen Pope who was our contact person.
Marie Gajarsky again delivered calendars to the Paramus Veterans Home and the Brookdale Senior Home in Paramus. Thanks to all who brought in the calendars and a special thanks to Marie who always does such great job. Ellen and I delivered Target and Walmart gift cards to the County of Bergen Tracers in Hackensack and to the Alfred J. Thomas Home in Garfield. Also, a thank you to Auxiliary member, Christine McCormack, who shopped for and delivered an assortment of socks for men, women and children to Sacred Heart Church for their Christmas baskets.
The annual Auxiliary Christmas Party was held on December 14th at 7:00 pm (in place of our regular meeting) at the Bonefish Grill in Paramus NJ. Again a big thank you to Mildred Lerose, chairperson of this event, for finding such a great venue and for her homemade cookies and candy. A great time was had by all.
Open Matters: (1) if you know of anyone who is interested in attending Girls State (Sunday, June 17th to Friday, June 22nd), please contact Bert Sneyer at firstname.lastname@example.org for more details; and (2) nominations for Auxiliary officers are being accepted now. So far we are in need of a Treasurer. For further information, please contact Madeline Madden, our nominating chairperson at email@example.com.
For God and Country,
