Post 170 Riders
Hello Riders & Post 170 Family,
Happy new year! I hope everyone had a great holiday season. The countdown has begun for our first event of the year, our annual Beefsteak Dinner fundraiser taking place Sunday, April 14th from 4pm-8pm. Tickets are $50 per person. Colleen has tickets printed and ready to go, so grab a few and start selling. Thanks Colleen! I also wrote and have our Riders donation letter printed and ready for distribution. Please take a few at our next meeting, Tuesday February 5th at 7:30pm, and distribute to local businesses to have items donated for our tricky tray.
I restocked our Riders membership applications, available in lounge entry area. New members are always welcomed and needed. Talk to a motorcycle enthusiast you know, find out if they’re eligible to become a member of the Legion, Auxiliary, or SAL and sign ‘em up. Hey – you never know. To join the Riders, they first need to become a member of one of the Legion Family organizations.
Last year, with the support and collaboration of our Post 170 Family, we donated 100% of our proceeds to help veterans with PTSD, women veteran groups, and Bergen County Tracers for homeless veterans, and more. For the past ten years, we contributed to The American Legion Legacy Scholarship Fund, a college fund for children whose parent made the ultimate sacrifice. We need to continue supporting the causes we care about. We have a great Riders group that always works together for a successful outcome, and I thank you. Go team!!
Happy 100th Anniversary American Legion! Check out the national centennial website here https://centennial.legion.org for some interesting information.
Here’s a “Centennial Moment” from the site:
Q: In which Legion department did the American Legion Riders get its start?
A: Michigan. In 1993, members of Post 396 in Garden City decided to start a post group for motorcycle enthusiasts. From there, it has grown into a thriving member of the Legion family, with more than 100,000 Riders – Legionnaires, Auxiliary members and Sons – meeting in more than 1,000 chapters in every U.S. department and at least three foreign countries.
Check the events calendar for all upcoming Post Family events.
Thanks for all you do! Until then…
