Rochelle Park Bears move on to District Competition

The Bergen County American Legion organization is proud to announce that regular league play of American Legion Baseball completed on Sunday July 13th when the Rochelle Park Bears (sponsored by Rochelle Park Post 170) defeated Lyndhurst (sponsored by Lyndhurst Post 139). In the league’s playoffs of the 3 teams tied for 2nd place. Lyndhurst defeat Pompton Lakes on Saturday July 12th with a dynamic comeback in the bottom of the 7th to win 2 -1. And Rochelle Park defeated Lyndhurst 10-0 with the game ending in the bottom of the 5th when the Bears scored their final run.

The Rochelle Park Bears will join the Wayne Cardinals (who finished 1st in the Bergen/Passaic League) in the 2014 NJ State American Legion Baseball Tournament. They will begin the grueling double loss elimination phase of Legion District play on Saturday July 19th. The Cardinals will play the Essex County winner at Jannarone Park Field, Parsippany, NJ and the Bears will face HU-WAR-AUM at Teener League Field, Union, NJ.

Winners at the district level will go on to the State finals starting July 27th with the Regional Tournaments starting August 7th. The New Jersey Winner will play at Campbell’s Field in Camden, NJ.

The 2014 Legion World Series will be televised on ESPN and played at Keeter Stadium in Shelby, North Carolina starting on August 13th.
